Pete received his certification as a Bau-biologie Environmental Inspector through the International Institute of Bau-biologie and Ecology (IBE) in Clearwater, Florida.  

The German term "Bau-biologie" means "building biology" or "the relationship between buildings and life" and could be defined as:

1. The impact of the building environment on human health, and the application of this knowledge to the construction, or modification, of homes and workplaces, and
2. The holistic interaction between human life and other life-forms and the environment.

IBE's main purpose is education: to help people discover the health hazards that may exist in their homes and workplaces, even though they may not be aware of them--ignorance of these hazards may not only have an effect on their health, but in a wider sense, on the survival of the planet.   Beyond this, Bau-biologie suggests ways to eliminate, or at least ameliorate, such problems using knowledge that has been amassed in Europe over the past four decades.
